Submission Guidelines - What You Must Know

Accepted Submission Types

We Welcome:

Personal Stories & Reflections

Stories of Healing Moments, Family Patterns Being Broken, Reconciliation, Repair, Boundaries, Grief + Growth, Identity + Belonging or Transformation.

Recommended Length: 800–1,500 words

ROOTED™ Healing Tools & Reflection Pieces

Articles aligned with the ROOTED™ framework: Reclaim, Own, Observe, Transform, Embody, Dream.

These Pieces can Iclude Healing Tools, Family Rituals, Reflection Prompts & Circle Lessons

Suggested length: 700–1,200 words

Clinical & Educational Articles

Psychoeducation, Family Healing, Attachment & Parenting Insights, Emotional Wellness Tools, Relationship Repair, Trauma Healing, Grounded in Culture and Accessible Language.

Suggested length: 900–1,600 words

Note: Submissions should not be academic writing with clinical jargon and should be culturally respectful.

Youth & Teen Voices

Honest reflections from youth navigating identity, family pressure, belonging, mental health, relationships, and hope.

Suggested length: 400–900 words

Poetry & Spoken Word

Poetry that carries truth, repair, grief, hope, and generational healing.

Suggested length: 1–3 poems

Visual Art, Photography & Creative Submissions

We welcome: Photography, Illustration, Artwork, Visual Storytelling

Submit as high-resolution images with a short caption or artist statement.

Writing Standards, Tone & Voice

We publish work that is:

✅ Honest

✅ Culturally Grounded

✅ Emotionally Responsible

✅ Hopeful Without Being Shallow

✅ Rooted In Healing, Not Humiliation

We do not publish:

❌ Revenge narratives

❌ “Exposing” family members

❌ Explicit content or graphic details

❌ Hate speech, misogyny, tribalism, xenophobia

❌ Content that promotes violence or dehumanization

❌ Content that encourages self-harm or harm to others

Trauma-Informed Safety Guidelines

Because we hold sacred family wounds, we require contributors to write with care.

If your piece includes trauma, please include:

✅ Context + reflection (not just details)

✅ What you learned / how you survived

✅ A turning point or insight

✅ Gentle closing that supports reader grounding

✅ Optional: a short content note

Examples:

  • “Content Note: Grief, Family Conflict”
  • “Content Note: Childhood Neglect, Recovery”

We do not publish graphic descriptions of abuse or violence.

Confidentiality + Legal Safe Practices

To protect contributors and the magazine:

✅ Use first names only or change names when necessary

✅ Do not name identifiable people in harmful ways

✅ Avoid exact addresses, workplace names, or legal accusations

✅ Avoid making clinical diagnoses of others in your family

Editorial Rights + Revision Expectations

By submitting, contributors agree that:

  • The magazine may request edits for clarity, length, and safety
  • Grammar and formatting edits may be made
  • Major edits will be reviewed with the contributor

We do not alter your truth — we protect your voice and the reader’s nervous system.

Compensation + Contributor Gifts

You can pick what fits your budget.

Option A: Volunteer - Community Contribution

This is a volunteer contribution to a sacred healing platform. Contributors receive recognition and contributor features. Access to the magazine is optional.

Option B — Stipend-Based Contributions

Selected contributors may receive a stipend, based on format, length, and available sponsorship support, ranging from $25 to $100 per accepted piece.

Option C — Hybrid

Stipends for key feature pieces and volunteer recognition for shorter submissions.

Option D — In-Kind Compensation

Receive a free event ticket or a Healing Circle pass. A printed magazine copy mailed to your US address, and ROOTED™ workshop credits.
